The running world loses a legend.

It is with deep regret that we have heard of the passing of Michael “Curley” Cunningham RIP. Michael who was known to all as Curley was a member of Bilboa Athletic Club for a number of years. He was a national and international runner born in Cappamore. He commenced his training for a marathon and within a few short months had completed his first ever race which was the Dublin City Marathon. Unlike many runners who stick to a particular distance, Curley was seen at any kind of a race from 5k to 50k. He was passionate about his running and loved the thrill of competition. Curley got a podium or category prize in approximately 90% of the races he ran every year. He was gentle, mild mannered with time to talk to everyone. After a few years running with Bilboa he started some mountain running with his friend Tom Blackburn and moved to Mooreabbey Milers who catered for runners who trained together to develop the specific skills needed for mountain running. Curley trained every day to achieve his high level of performance. The running world had considerable respect and praise for Curley. We all want to say how proud we are of our local legend Mike “Curley” Cunningham. Our sincere condolences to Maire, his parents, brothers, sisters and close friends. The running world has lost a legend.
